It's 10:48 p.m. CST and no rest for the CEO. I'm currently reviewing several individuals (via the web) for a ghostwriting assignment that I have selected on a book that I want to write. As you will find out, CEO's can't and don't know everything but what we do know is who to contact when we need help. I was fortunate enough to have met some interesting and successful people along the way and was pointed to a site called Guru.com in which I have found some very talented people to help with various projects that come up.
One of the nice things about meeting or dealing with individuals that have varied backgrounds is that they may have a different approach to something that your working on or developing that makes you take a step back and go, wow, what if I did it that way....
I also find that doing public speaking and seminars certainly will help make you become more confident. I would recommend that you practice your speech in front of your family first, allow them to interrupt and ask questions, but still be able to get your point across. Once you feel comfortable with that then it's time to invite a few friends over and do the same thing over again. And remember if you have to rely solely on PowerPoint, then they lose focus on you and your message - make your message entertaining enough that PowerPoint is just for focus on ideas.
As you gain more confidence, you will find that it will become easier to handle larger situations where public speaking enters a whole new arena. One that is not only exciting but stimulating as well. One thing I would caution though is to make sure that the message is targeted to the right audience and that you completely and I mean COMPLETELY understand your message.
Good luck and many happy successes!
